The Board

Victorian community health centres are established under the Health Services 1988 and amendments to the Act.  The Board of Governance consists of both appointed and elected members.

Ovens & King Community Health Service is governed by a nine member Board of Management, five elected by membership and four appointed by the Governor in Council.

In its governance role, the Board is responsible for ensuring that the health needs of communities and people are met through:

  • effective centre management
  • funding and service agreements
  • locally developed policy and initiatives; and
  • the Centre's legal framework

The Board has delegated the operational management of the Agency to the Chief Executive Officer.  The Chief Executive Officer has the responsibility for achieving the organisational strategic ends as determined by the Board and in doing so, ensuring that all funding and service requirements are met and all matters related to finance, staffing and administration are managed within statutory, legislative and legal mandates.

A Board member will hold office for 3 years after his or her election or appointment unless a Board member is co-opted, elected or appointed to fill a casual vacancy.

The next major round of appointed and elected Board elections will take place in 2010.
