The Maternal & Child Health Service is a universal primary care service for families with children aged birth to school age.
The Service aims to ensure a comprehensive approach for the early detection, intervention and prevention of physical, emotional and social issues affecting young children and their families. The service also provides intensive support for vulnerable families experiencing significant parenting difficulties through a home visiting Enhanced Maternal & Child Health program.
About the service
The service is free and universal and provides clinical care, monitoring of growth and development, health promotion and support on issues such as:
- Breast feeding
- Child health and development
- Maternal health
- Parent child relationships
- Home and car safety
- Child accident and injury prevention
- Immunisation
- Nutrition
- Local support services and resources
- Early identification and intervention for health concerns
- Advice and support for families with additional needs
- Group and educational activities for parents

There are three centres in Wangaratta and one at Moyhu.
