A new GP clinic connected to the Ovens and King Community Health Service opened in Wangaratta in February 2009. The number of patients is increasing and a full-time position is currently available to work with the one GP employed at present. Surgical procedural skills are required but there are no hospital commitments.
Currently the GP is supported by a practice manager, practice nurse and an experienced administration team. The clinic is a bulk-billing clinic that prides itself on offering quality care and is open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. The practice focuses on healthcare for all ages, preventative medicine, chronic disease management and sexual health issues. Other health services available through Ovens and King Community Health include drug and alcohol, counselling and advocacy, podiatry, aged care assessment, integrated mental health, community health nursing, dietitian, maternal and child health, palliative care support, needle exchange, problems gambling and victims assistance.
A supportive and professional orientation and induction process is well-established through Ovens and King Community Health Service and a mentor is available for the new doctor. The doctor and family will be provided with ongoing support to help establish themselves in the vibrant City of Wangaratta with assistance to find accommodation, schools, spousal employment and introductions to sporting clubs and social events.
