What is palliative care?
Palliative care is everyone's business
Palliative care is taken from the Latin palliare, "to cloak". The goal of palliative care is to improve quality of life for a person living with a life limiting illness and for their families and carers. This is provided by care that addresses people's physical, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual needs. They should have access to care and support, when and where they need it to help live as well as possible during their illness and for family to gain the support they need during bereavement.
There is a wide range of palliative care education and training opportunities available within the Hume region, across the state, nationally and internationally.
The Hume Palliative Care Consultancy Team is a major provider of palliative care education and training in the Hume Region of North East Victoria.
We plan, research, co-ordinate, develop, deliver and evaluate palliative care, best practice education and training to specialist palliative care teams, primary care providers, tertiary institutions and the broader community.
We provide education and training workshops tailored to match specific needs, and/or deliver pre-developed education modules in the following categories:
* Palliative Care/Palliative Approach * Pain and Symptom Management* Grief and Psychosocial Care * Volunteer Training
* Health Promotion
