Residents in fire-affected areas could be without power for up to a week because of damage to electricity infrastructure.

Important Safety Information for Generator Use

Due to the extensive damage to power infrastructure in some communities following the bushfires, some people are relying on generators to supply electricity until their property can be reconnected to the electricity supply system.

Telephone

Optus - 1300 300 937 - Free prepaid mobile handsets loaded with $1,000 in calling credits to stranded bushfire survivors who were Optus customers.

Telstra - 13 22 03 - Disaster Relief Package includes:

  • Free call diversion from fixed line to another fixed or mobile service of their choice
  • Mobile calls to be charged at fixed line rates for local and STD calls made on their mobile service
  • Free reconnections

Telstra - Payphones with free calls for those in affected areas.

Melbourne Water - Bushfires in catchments update.

Post

Australia Post will be holding the mail for all addresses in fire affected areas and are asking people who have lost their home to visit their closest post office to fill in a redirection form for their mail or contact 13 13 18.

Computers

AIIA - Families affected by the bushfires will be offered a free computer to help them stay in touch with friends and family. Register to receive or provide ICT support.
